We published the following news story in our news column this morning. Scouts worldwide have an opportunity to do a good turn by helping in the search for Steve Fossett using satellite imagery tools available via the Internet.
Use Satellite Imagery to Help Find Steve Fossett
posted on September 9, 2007
Today is the sixth day of the search for Steve Fossett who was last seen departing in a small single engine aircraft in Nevada on September 3. Steve Fossett is the current President of the National Eagle Scout Association, a member of the Executive Board of BSA, and the recipient of the Silver Buffalo and Distinguished Eagle Scout awards.
Amazon and Google have made available new high resolution images of the area where Steve Fossett was flying when he went missing. You can assist in the search by going to http://www.mturk.com/mturk/preview?groupId=9TSZK4G35XEZJZG21T60&kw=Flash, which is a page at Amazon Mechanical Turk with details on how to assist in the search by reviewing satellite imagery. The page also provides a downloadable KML file that can be used with Google Earth to review the imagery. Each visitor to this site will be presented with an image that is approximately 85m x 85x in size and given an opportunity to note whether the picture contains anything of interest.
